Montgomery arrested for sexual abuse of a minor

Charles Montgomery, 70, chief of the Oneonta Fire Department from 1984 until 2006, was arrested by Blount County sheriff’s deputies last Friday and charged with first degree sexual abuse of a female family member who is a minor. The arrest followed a July 27 grand jury indictment; bond was set at $40,000. Montgomery made bail and was released pending trial.

The abuse was alleged to have occurred over the past three years, but came to light only recently. The Alabama Bureau of Investigation handled the investigation, and Laura Poston of Jefferson County was assigned as special prosecutor for the case.
