The Miss Covered Bridge, Miss Covered Bridge Outstanding Teen, and Miss Blount County Outstanding Teen competition was held Sunday at J.B. Pennington High School.
This year’s Miss Covered Bridge and winner of a $500 scholarship is Caroline Whatley of Mobile.She is currently a student at the University of South Alabama. Her social impact initiative is PASSAGE USA, which stands for Preparing All Students Socially and Academically for Gainful Employment.
Miss Covered Bridge’s Outstanding Teen and winner of a $100 scholarship is Maddie Machovec of Alabaster.She was also named the evening gown and onstage question winner. Maddie is a student at Thompson High School. Her social impact initiative is “Gold Isn’t Just for September” advocating for childhood cancer research.
This year’s Miss Blount County’s Outstanding Teen and winner of a $100 scholarship is Lona Jo Henderson, an eighth-grade student at Oneonta Middle School. Lona Jo was also named the talent winner. Her social impact initiative is “In the Moment,” which works to inspire her peers to put down their phones and be fully present in life’s precious moments.
Whatley will represent Blount County at Miss Alabama in June. Machovec and Henderson will represent Blount County at Miss Alabama’s Outstanding Teen in March.
