Mid-year personnel moves dominate November meeting

BLOUNT COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION

Acting on the recommendation of Superintendent Rodney Green, the Blount County Board of Education handled numerous personnel decisions during the board’s regular meeting Nov. 7.

Among the moves was the granting of leaves of absence to 14 system employees.

The board also accepted the resignations of Susan Moore High teachers Edward Daryl Burnham (physical education/ driver education) and Melissa S. Bush (English/language arts). Burnham’s resignation is effective Nov. 7 and Bush’s resignation is effective Dec. 16.

In other business, the board:

•amended the system salary schedule, effective Nov. 8, to set a stipend rate for participants and presenters for professional development activities and increased bus driver pay for field trips and extracurricular trips (in-county trips to $45, out-of-county trips to $65).

•awarded the food service bid for a combination-oven at Appalachian High to Bresco.

•entered into a memorandum agreement with the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services (ADRS) for a part-time, 12-month pre-employment transition specialist for 2016-2017.

•entered into a service agreement with Milestones Behavior Group Inc.

•approved three field trips: Hayden High boys basketball to Pigeon Forge, Dec. 26-28; Cleveland Elementary sixth grade students to Camp Cosby, April 12- 14; Susan Moore sixth grade students to Camp Cosby, May 3-5.

•allowed the Cleveland High Booster Club to pay Tiffany Sherbert $50 per home basketball game, not to exceed a total of $800, to clean the school’s gymnasium during the 2016-2017 school year.

•allowed Blountsville Elementary and Susan Moore Elementary to contract with Herff Jones Inc. for the 2016-2017 yearbook publication.

•allowed Southeastern School to contract with Picaboo Publishing for the 2016-2017 yearbook publication.

•allowed Locust Fork High to contract with Walsworth Publishing for the 2017-2018 yearbook publication. The contract will be paid from the school’s local funds.

•approved the following non-compensated volunteers for the 2016-2017 school year: Daniel Davis (softball), Appalachian High; Ashley Day (band), Hayden High; Jeremy Camp and Tracy Camp (fishing), Locust Fork High.

•contracted with Randy Bolzle and Jeremy Penny to serve as credit recovery tutors for Hayden High through April 28, 2017. The contracts will be paid from the school’s local Title 1 funds.

•allowed Carolyn Rebecca Hargett, physical education aide at Hayden Middle School, to work the admission gate for Hayden High School’s home basketball games during the 2016-2017 season. She will be paid at her regular hourly rate plus time-and-a-half for all hours over 40 from Hayden High’s local funds.

•allowed Hayden High to pay Robert Bradford $25 per game to announce all of Hayden High’s varsity basketball home games during the 2016-2017 season. He will be paid from the school’s local funds.

•allowed Hayden High to pay Terri Bibb $100 per game to work he concession stand at all of Hayden High’s home basketball games during the 2016-2017 season. She will be paid from the school’s local funds.

•contracted with Locust Fork High teacher Denise McMullen to provide homebound services to a student through the conclusion of the 2016-2017 school year.

•contracted with Mitchie Neel for consulting and administrative services through Sept. 30, 2017.

•transferred utility school bus driver Jerri Reani Bellew to the position of school bus aide for the Blount County Learning Center.

•transferred utility school bus driver Rickey L. Thomas to the position of bus driver at Southeastern School.

•transferred Patricia Thomas, Child Nutrition Program manager at Hayden Primary, to the same position at Hayden Elementary.

•transferred Rebecca Lynn Tully, Child Nutrition Program employee, to the position of Child Nutrition Program manager at Hayden Elementary.

•hired Timothy Allen Baker as a 222-day custodian at Southeastern School.

•approved Brooke Hendricks, Victoria Reid, Meagan Duke, Leah Powers, Susan Manley and Tarra Varnum as substitute school nurses for the 2016-2017 school year.

•hired Shanna Marie Melton as a Child Nutrition Program employee at Hayden Primary School.

•contracted with Edward Daryl Burnham to teach two driver education classes per day at Susan Moore High School through the end of the 2016-2017 school year.

•contracted with Hayden Middle School teacher Brittney Henderson to provide homebound services to student through the end of the 2016-2017 school year.

•contracted with Ashton Broadhead, Rosa Noles and Nancy Caffee to provide homebound services to Bridge Academy students through the end of the 2016-2017 school year.

•accepted the retirement resignation of Cathy Long, Child Nutrition Program employee at Susan Moore High, effective Jan. 1, 2017.

•hired Gracie League as a Child Nutrition Program employee at Susan Moore Elementary.

•hired Elizabeth Danielle Martin as English/language arts teacher at Susan Moore High, effective Jan. 3, 2017.

Finally, the board transferred Susan Moore Elementary teacher Natasha Smallwood to the position of physical education teacher at Susan Moore High, effective Jan. 3, 2017.
