Mental health authority seeks 2012 funding increase

Speaking before the Oneonta City Council, Jefferson-Blount-St. Clair Mental Health Authority associate director Jim Crego asked the officials to increase the municipality’s annual appropriation $300 to $4800 for fiscal 2012.

City manager Ed Lowe had previously issued a call for groups who receive city funding to present their requests for the upcoming year. Municipal councils usually approve their budgets during September for the Oct. 1 beginning of their business year.

Meeting in its regular, Aug. 23 meeting, the council re-appointed Lowe as its representative to the Blount County – Oneonta Chamber of Commerce. Members also declared September “Library Card Sign-up Month.”

Mayor Darryl Ray read a resignation letter from park and recreation director David Elliott. Councilman Mark Gargus, who coordinates that department’s work with the council, announced operations would continue through Lowe and others while the city prepares to advertise and name another director.

All other councilors (Hal Buckelew, Tim McNair, Ross Norris, and Danny Robinson) joined Ray and Gargus for the meeting. The council holds its regular sessions the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 5:30 p.m. in city hall.
