Memorial Day solemnized

About 100 citizens assembled on the courthouse lawn Monday morning to celebrate Memorial Day, featuring the reading of names of Blount County casualties in five wars, and the singing of ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ by Linda Rhymes. Guest speaker Wayne Bynum spoke on patriotism and read a moving poem entitled ‘A soldier died today.’ Commanders of four Blount County American Legion posts and a Disabled American Veterans chapter carried out the laying of the wreath on the memorial marker commemorating Blount County’s casualties.
