MELVIN THOMAS ‘SHORTY’ HARDMAN of Straight Mountain in Blount County passed away April 1, 2021, at the age of 87 at TLC Nursing Center in Oneonta.
He was a graduate of Appalachian High School. Shorty worked at Ebsco Corp. in warehouse inventory control and lived in Birmingham for almost 35 years until he retired. Shorty retired in Oneonta in the house he had bought for his mom and sister. He was always dedicated to his mother and sister. He was so proud that he had the means and ability to do his best for them.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents W.E. and Ida Hardman, brothers Calvin Hardman and A.C. Hardman, and sister Nellie Fay Hardman.
Melvin is survived by his niece Pat Hardman Gerleve and her husband Fred (who he kiddingly always said “I like him a little bit”); great-niece Robin Goritz; great-nephew Jeff Gerleve; great-great-nieces Madison, Peyton, and Alex; great-great-nephew Josh; first cousin Susan Geraldine Cornelius (who helped him out so much); many more cousins on the Hardman side of the family.
