71, Holly Springs, died Feb. 19, 2012, at UAB Hospital, Birmingham. Born in Blount County, she was predeceased by parents Darius Henry and Cora Sue Sivley Brand; husband J.B. Owens; and brother William Hershel Brand.

Mrs. Owens was known as one who could do anything she set her mind to – she mentored her children by her example of hard work and caring for family and neighbors. She excelled in small herd cattle farming, was a bridge construction laborer, an excellent seamstress, gardener, floral designer, cook, financial planner, and a fishing buddy to friends with time to spare.

Surviving are daughter Karen (Chuck) Lacks, Oneonta; son Jamie (Leisa) Owens, Dothan; grandchildren Jake (Chelsea) Lacks, Ben Lacks, Elizabeth Owens, Catherine and Christopher Owens; sisters Opal Stephenson, Helen Bearden, and Jewel Davis; and special friend John Woody.

The Feb. 22, 11 a.m. service was officiated by Robert Wamble and Ed Engle at Lemley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Mt. Carmel Cemetery with Randall Stephenson, Duran Stephenson, Joey Bearden, Terry Davis, Jake Lacks, and Frankey Owen serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Christopher Owens and Ben Lacks.
