Several events will be held in Blount County in the coming weeks

The 4th annual Dawg Daze, hosted by the Oneonta Business Association, will be held Saturday, Nov. 17, beginning at 9 a.m. in downtown Oneonta. Local shelters, groomers, and pet vendors are invited to exhibit. Bring your pet for a relaxing day out or enter your pooch in one of several contests, including most talented, best looking, best dressed, and most photogenic. Prizes will be given to all winners, and most photogenic wins a photoshoot with Southern Exposure Photography.

On Nov. 30, a Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place in Blountsville during the annual Christmas Open House. The Blountsville Town Hall will have refreshments. The event begins at 5 p.m. with the tree lighting service starting at 6 p.m. Santa will be available for pictures at the event.

During the first week in December, the Town of Cleveland will host Christmas in the Park. Currently, no official date or time has been given for the event.

The Oneonta Christmas Parade is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 4, beginning at 7 p.m. This year, the theme is “A Toyland and Candy Christmas.” Floats will line up on McCay Avenue at the Old Gargus Pontiac Building. From there, the parade will enter Ala 75 at the Olive Home and go south downtown. Marchers will enter the parade from the Daniel Shopping Center. The parade will turn left at the intersection of Ala 75 and Picket Fence. The entry fee for business/corporation floats and individual vehicles and groups is $20. The entry fee for non-profit organizations is $10. All high school bands in Blount County are invited to attend. On Dec. 7 and 8, the Oneonta Business Association will host Country Christmas. Musical guests on Dec. 8 include Backwoods Boys Bluegrass Band at 9 a.m., Ladies of Faith at 10 a.m., Praise Team of WOC at 11 a.m., and Roman Street at noon. Hammer’s and Royal Cup Coffee will cosponsor a coffeehouse located at the former Hammer’s building on First Ave. Santa will be available for pictures on Dec. 7 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Dec. 8 from 10 a.m. until noon and 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.

The Blount County – Oneonta Chamber of Commerce will host the Christmas Chamber Breakfast on Dec. 12 at 7:30 a.m. at Heritage. A Christmas message will be given by a guest speaker. All are invited to attend.
