Anthony Amaro, 31, of Hayden, was charged with firstdegree assault after authorities say he attacked his wife, Jessica Amaro, with a hatchet, according to reports.
The incident happened at a home on Levi Green Road at approximately 12:18 p.m., on Friday. Blount County 911 received a call with no one on the other end of the line but a disturbance could be heard in the background.
Deputies arrived on the scene and entered an open door for a welfare check. According to court records, a hatchet was on the floor, a bedroom door was broken down, and blood was on the kitchen floor.
Jessica Amaro was transported to Cullman Regional Hospital before being taken to UAB Hospital, according to sources.
She spoke to authorities and confirmed her husband had hit her in the head with a hatchet.
Charges could be upgraded to attempted murder based on evidence.
As of Tuesday, Anthony Amaro was still in the Blount County Correctional Facility.
