LOUIE DALE MORTON, also known by his friends as “LD,” lifted up from his earthly home and ascended into the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, April 22, 2021. Born on April 27, 1957, to Wanda and Louie Brice Morton, Dale’s church membership was with Gardendale First Baptist.
Talented beyond his years, Dale, a self-trained computer techie, had avid interests in many activities and hobbies among them are photography, travel, guitar, jazz music, blacksmithing, cooking, fishing, genealogy, and many sports. In his youth, he was standout tackle on the 1974 SMHS football team under the leadership of Coach Larry Pod Patterson, Tom Boatman, and Bruce McAfee. He and friends Darrel Ellison (Pancho), Mike Maze, and Ken Stevenson formed a rock band and played for school functions while in high school.
Dale was well adapted to the world of work during his teen years. Early on, he picked cotton for Acton Gibbs and hauled hay for Tom Boatman and many others. In addition, he worked summers at the Minnow Farms and worked for local bricklayers. In 1978, he began a career at Tractor and Equipment Company where he served as the Service Clerk. His retirement party on May 15, 2019, at TEC was a milestone of an accomplished tract of service encompassing 42 years.
Dale stood on the shoulders of a great many strong family members who went on before him: his dad Louie Brice Morton; maternal grandmother Julia Walls; and paternal grandparents Barcie and Bass Morton.
