Lone Star Rodeo rides into town

Offering top-notch stock and competition, pageantry, and family entertainment, the tradition of the Lone Star Rodeo will continue and provide western-style family entertainment at the Blount County-Oneonta Agri-Business Center on Friday, April 12, and Saturday, April 13.

This year’s rodeo will not disappoint. Rodeo enthusiasts will enjoy the intense competition of bareback bronc riding, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, calf roping, cowgirl’s breakaway roping, team roping, cowgirl’s barrel racing, and Brahma bull riding as the featured events. Special added attractions will include best-dressed cowboy and cowgirl, Kids’ Chicken Chase and Kids’ Gold Rush for children 10 and under, death defying chuckwagon races, hilarious rodeo clown Mighty Mike Wentworth, and fancy trick and Roman riders Jessica Fowlkes and Oralee Madison.

Friday night’s show will have a special tribute to Ralph Morton, who, along with his brother, Vance, was instrumental in getting the rodeo as one of the main events for the Agri-Business Center. The rodeo has been a tradition for 38 years. Morton, who passed away in 2018, was the first board chairman and stayed active until his health no longer allowed him to do so. Current board director Jeff Hallmark said, “Ralph and Vance Morton love(d) the Agri-Business Center. I have so much respect for both of them.”

On Thursday morning, April 11, an extraordinary event will take place for the county’s special needs students. The rodeo will hold a performance providing non-stop thrills and excitement for those who attend. Hallmark said, “If you want to see a blessing, come see the Special Olympics rodeo. It is one of the best things we do.” After the show, students will enjoy lunch at the center.

Tickets for the rodeo can be purchased in advance at the Agri-Business Center during regular business hours. Advance tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children. Tickets will also be available at the door for $15 per adult and $10 per child. For more information about the rodeo, call 274-8839 or visit the website at www.bcoabc.com.
