The Birmingham Water Works Board voted Thursday to sell its 3200-acre Locust Fork River tract to Tuscaloosa businessman Jeffrey Todd Palmer for $5 million. Of that, $4.5 million will go to the water works board, while $500,000 will be paid to a foundation that helps low income customers pay their water bills.
Palmer’s business interests have been reported to include real estate, telemarketing and Christian merchandise. He said that he wants the land as a recreational place for his family, he might sell portions of the tract isolated from the main tract, and he might preserve parts of it through the use of conservation easements.
