The Haleyville Lions used a solid defense and Hayden mistakes to post a 21-6 victory at Hayden last Friday night.
Hayden never got going offensively against the stingy Haleyville defense – finishing with just 121 yards of total offense – and turned the ball over five times on the evening.
Haleyville used a 5-yard touchdown pass and a pair of field goals, all in the second quarter, to build a 13-0 halftime lead.
The Lions then got a 41-yard touchdown run from Devin Whiteside in the third quarter to ice the game.
Hayden avoided the shutout when Reese Butts tossed a 3-yard pass to Seth Gardner with 2:33 left to play.
Haleyville rushed for 220 yards while Hayden was held to just 78. Issac Veitch led the Wildcats with 32 yards on 11 carries.
Butts and Corey Ward combined to complete 8 of 14 passes for 58 yards and three interceptions. Gardner caught three for 26 yards and a touchdown.
Matt Brown led the Wildcat defense with 18 tackles while Cayson Smith had eight tackles and 1.5 sacks.
Haleyville improved to 2-0 while Hayden fell to 0-2.
