Last second shot sends Bulldogs to championship

As time was running out and Susan Moore down by 1, freshman Logan Blackwell’s  three-point shot found the bottom of the net and sends the Bulldogs to the area championship where they will face Brindlee Mountain. The final score was Susan Moore 59 – J.B. Pennington 57. Susan Moore travels to Brindlee Mountain Friday for a 6 p.m. tip off.

In other Area Tournament semifinal action, the Appalachian Eagles soared past Jefferson Christian 91-63. They host Sumiton Cristian for the championship at 6 p.m. Friday. Oneonta’s 43-33 victory over Curry keeps their season alive. They travel to Good Hope for a 6 p.m. tip off Friday.

The area tournament for girls 2A Area 11 got underway Tuesday, Feb. 9, as well. Number one seed Locust Fork ended the Lady Panthers’ season with a 47-17 win. Just over the mountain, the Lady Mustangs earned their ticket to the championship beating West End 50-33. Southeastern travels to Locust Fork Thursday. Tip off is at 6 p.m. In 5A Area 12, the Lady Wildcats took advantage of their home court easily beating Cordova 68-29. They will host Center Point at 6 p.m. Friday in the championship game.

On Feb. 10, Cleveland, Locust Fork, and Southeastern hit the court for the boys 2A Area 11 semifinals. Locust Fork hosts West End and Southeastern hosts Cleveland. Both games start at 6. Winners meet for the championship at 6 p.m. Friday. Hayden hosts Corner in the 5A Area 12 semifinals at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 10, as well. A win advances them to a match up with Center Point or Cordovan 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13.

The Lady Eagles, Lady Bulldogs, and Lady Redskins each won their semifinal game Monday, Feb. 8. Appalachian hosts Jefferson Christian, Susan Moore hosts Holly Pond, and Oneonta hosts Good Hope Thursday, Feb. 11. Tipoff is at 6 p.m.

First round losses by the Lady Panthers and Lady Tigers end their seasons. J.B. Pennington’s boys season ends as well with their loss to Susan Moore. Teams advancing to the championship will move on to sub-regionals regardless of the outcome in those games. We will continue to provide updates throughout post season play.
