Simply put, softball at Hayden is on fire this season. The junior high girls shut out each opponent to win the county tournament. They had 41 total runs and surrendered zero runs.
Hayden first defeated Cleveland 15-0. The third inning was the biggest for the Lady Wildcats, scoring six runs. They collected 15 total hits in the game. Ansley Armstrong (3-4, 4 RBIs) and Marissa Painter (3-4, 2 RBIs) led the Lady Wildcats to victory from the plate. Aubrey Gunter was the winning pitcher. She allowed zero hits and zero runs, struck out 11, and walked zero over her five innings pitched.
The second game looked much like the first as they won 10-0 over Appalachian. Miah Simmons and Gabby Knighten both pitched the shutout victory. Simmons allowed zero hits or runs, struck out two, and walked zero during her three innings pitched. Knighten also had zero hits or runs during her one relief inning. Hayden had 14 total hits, with Painter leading (3-3, 2 RBIs). One of Painter’s hits was a homer in the third inning.
Hayden defeated Susan Moore 16-0 in the championship game. They collected 18 total hits. Alyssa Jinright (3-3, 1 RBI) and Simmons (3-4, 3 RBIs) led at the plate with three hits each. Simmons was also the winning pitcher. She surrendered zero hits and zero runs over four innings.
