Here is a crude stab at describing what you’ll see inside Kountry Wood Kreations, a new downtown business located at 200 Railroad Avenue. But you really need to go see it for yourself to grasp the range and uniqueness of the gift items you’ll see in this light and airy shop. Generally, the gifts fall into the category of decorative items for the home: wall art, decorative cutouts, fancy little boxes and chests (inset), and more. Who knew that you could make a wooden cutout so fancy and filigreed that it looks like a fine lace doily? You’ll know when you see the display of decorative cutouts in the display in the middle of the back wall. At the other end of the imaginative spectrum, there are items and ideas for kids as well. And an occasional flash of humor.
Much of the detail work is done with a computer-programmed router and laser engraving. The news flash is that owners April (wielding the scissors) and Chris (thumb-in-pocket at her side) George are willing to produce similar items, customized to your wishes, wild ideas, or photos or sketches of objects you covet.
Kountry Wood Kreations is located in the small free-standing frame building on Railroad Avenue, directly across 3rd St. South from the big WinSouth Credit Union sign. Hours of operation are Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Sunday and Monday. Off-street parking in front of the building.
“Please come by and look at what we have and get an idea of all the things we can do,” April said. “And if you want something special and personal, bring us a photo or drawing or an idea of what you’ve got in mind, and we’ll try to create it for you.”
Now this is subjective – and certainly not a guarantee of anything – but for whatever it’s worth, Chris George strikes you as the kind of guy who can make anything.
