Just a little clarification, please…

EDITORIAL

I just feel the need to make this clear, as clear as I can make it.

Last week’s stories concerning the Blount County Commission approving the budget were not in any way meant to be critical of the commissioners and the work they did. Believe me, I know how hard it is for the commissioners to make these decisions and I’m sure they struggle with them. There is simply not enough money to go around, which I pointed out last week.

The commissioners made compromises and did their work the way they are supposed to do it and we commend them for that. Like any budget, I’m sure there are some who are not happy and that was what we referenced when talking about departments and department heads. The commissioners themselves did what they are supposed to do – work together and do what they think is best.

Allen Armstrong, Dean Calvert, Mike Painter and Nick Washburn, congratulations on working together and managing the county’s money as you see fit. The process and, more importantly, the people in charge of the process worked as it should, something I wish extended all the way up to the White House.

A few other things…

…I have a stepson in South Korea and we pray for him daily. I ask that you do too. Pray for all of our men and women in the Armed Forces…

…First responders should also be prayed for. These men and women have been called on so many times. At the national level, with hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Nate…in Las Vegas, where another senseless shooting claimed so many innocent lives…also locally where they do things on a daily basis that most of us can only imagine…first responders are special people – but never forget that they are people and the things they see and have to do stay with them forever…

…Finally, am I the only one to come to the conclusion that the President doesn’t need a Twitter account? Surely not.
