Just a dusting?

Maybe for Canada. Here in Alabama ‘just a dusting’ usually isn’t associated with an inch of snow accumulation and vehicle accidents caused by hazardous road conditions. Thirty to 40 accidents were reported throughout Blount County as of Tuesday at noon, according to Probate Judge Chris Green, who volunteered to answer phone calls for the Emergency Management Agency (EMA) during the winter event. After the snow fell on Tuesday, all Blount County roads were ruled impassable, Oneonta roads were closed, and Blount County and Oneonta students were sent home. Green said a major problem was attempting to assist schools in their effort to make sure stranded children got home safely. At approximately 10:30 a.m., Oneonta public safety director Brandon Horton said the band of weather was moving out of Cullman County and into Blount County. “The snow will stop falling over the next hour or so,” he said.“However, the problem is what has fallen will not melt away because of ground temperatures.” – Nicole Singleton
