It’s back! The Oneonta Business Association’s 19th annual June Fling hits the streets of downtown Oneonta this weekend. You’ll find lots of fun and plenty of arts and crafts, classic cars, great food, and live music.

The event includes more than 100 booths, a cruise-in with all kinds of cars and trucks, a Kidz Fun Zone, live music, and other special entertainment. This year, there is a special prelude to the June Fling. Swing into the Fling kicks off the weekend’s festivities at 6 p.m. Friday.

Featuring the Shepherd Becker Quintet, this free event will be at the intersection of First Avenue and Third Street. For a VIP experience, tickets are available to purchase.Those get you stage front table seating, appetizers, drinks, door prizes, and a commemorative wrist band. The Fling begins at 9 a.m. Saturday morning. Early visitors will be greeted by the sounds of the Addison Rose Band who take the Explore Oneonta Stage at 9 a.m. At 10 a.m. you can hear The Allen Tolbert Unit followed by the Explore Oneonta Fashion Show at 11 a.m.Crossing Dixie will entertain from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Showdown Showcase will provide an hour and a half of live music that leads up to the main act, the American Flyers Show Band. This Atlanta based group will close out the June Fling from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

On the Community Arts Stage (located between Regions Bank and Creative Framing on Second Street at First Ave- nue) the following are slated to perform starting at 9 a.m:

• The Community Arts Council of Blount County

• Arts Alive students

• Clog Wild Cloggers

• Students from Miss Kelley’s School of Dance

• Oneonta High School majorettes

In the Kidz Fun Zone, children will be entertained throughout the day with a variety of activities in the 100 block of First Avenue including:

 

 

• Alabama Garrison of the 501st Legion, International Star Wars Costuming Organization. Your favorite “Star Wars” characters will roam the Kidz Fun Zone and the entire venue throughout the day.

• Game Zone Truck – 32 foot air-conditioned video game truck

• Feathered Friends Petting Zoo

• Pony rides

• Creative Face Painting by Sherry Reynolds ($5)

• Larry Moore the Magic Man

• Hometown Orthodontics will provide games, balloons, cups, koozies, t-shirts, lip balm, plink board, plus a contest to win $500 off an orthodontic treatment.

• Joy Baptist Church, Blount County Sheriff’s Department, and Oneonta Fire & Rescue will provide a variety of fun children’s activities.

The Fling wraps up at 4 p.m., but stay and enjoy dinner in one of downtown’s restaurants or visit TinTown Brewery with friends. There’s plenty to do in Oneonta even after the sun goes down.
