JOHN WILLIAM ‘BILL’ MITCHELL JR., 86, Dunwoody, Ga., died July 26, 2016, at Brighton Gardens of Dunwoody. He served with the U.S. Army and graduated from Auburn University in 1952 with a mechanical engineering degree and a master’s degree from Georgia Institute of Technology. He retired from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources in 1992, then again in 1996 from Law Engineering. He was a member of Dunwoody Baptist Church and enjoyed golfing, Atlanta Braves baseball, Auburn and Georgia Tech football, and watching his children and grandchildren play sports. He is predeceased by parents John William and Wallace Louise Crossfield Mitchell and wife of 60 years, Lillian Puckett Mitchell.
Surviving are sons James William Mitchell , Chatta-nooga, Tenn., Charles Michael Mitchell, Dunwoody, Ga., Robert Hugh (Barbara Jo) Mitchell, Marietta, Ga., Jeffrey David (Cynthia C.) Mitchell, Dunwoody, Ga.; grandchildren Adam Mitchell, Sofi Mitchell, Leia Mitchell, Andrew Mitchell, Ben (Rachel) Mitchell, Stephanie Mitchell, Brooks Mitchell, Holly Mitchell; great-grandson Henry Mitchell.
The family held a private memorial service at Dunwoody Baptist Church, with interment in a columbarium at the adjoining cemetery. The family suggests memorial donations to Dunwoody Baptist Church, 1445 Mt. Vernon Road, Dunwoody, GA 30338. Georgia Cremation, Duluth Ga., directed.
