JERRY DAVID SELLERS, loving husband and father, was born Nov. 24, 1939, and passed away Nov. 11, 2020. He is survived by his wife Frances Hunter Sellers, son David Alan (Ashley) Sellers, grandson Jack MacArthur Sellers, sisters Carolyn (Wesley) Worrell and Lura Brown, and his dog Gunny. He is predeceased by his parents O. L. and Ruby Sellers and sister Geraldine.
Joining a YMCA football team, Jerry was coached by Bobby Bowden, becoming the legend’s first QB. He started college at Samford University before graduating with a BS in civil engineering and an MS in structural engineering from The University of Alabama in 1965 and 1966. Jerry worked most of his career at the Pensacola-based Southern Prestressed Concrete, often with Auburn-trained engineers who teased him about attending ‘Bama. He eventually switched to sales, became VP of sales, and finally president/general manager (their boss), and he offers them one last “Roll Tide.” After retiring from SPC, Jerry worked for Finfrock Industries in Orlando as VP of marketing, when the company helped build Universal Studios Florida.
During his career, Jerry served tenures as the president and the chair of marketing committee for the Prestressed Concrete Institute and presidents for Gulf South Prestressed Concrete and Florida Prestressed Concrete. On March 9, 1992, Jerry was made fellow by The University of Alabama Department of Civil Engineering for his support and work in his field. He loved his family and golf, carried an eight handicap, and had four holes-in-one. He has a tee time awaiting him in heaven.
