JAMES O. ‘J.O.’ WEEMS JR., 69, Oneonta, died Aug. 11, 2017. He was a member of Park Avenue Baptist Church and enjoyed gospel music and singings. A graduate of Oneonta High School, he volunteered with the Oneonta football teams, and was a reserve with the Oneonta Police Department. Predeceasing him were parents James O. “Ollie” Sr. and Sue Ellen Allison Weems, mother Jewel Blackwood Weems, and brother Roger Weems.
Surviving are son Mark Weems; granddaughter Alleyna Renae Adcock; great-grandchild Emma Claire Adcock; brother Donnie (Phyllis) Weems; sisters Sandra (Don) Stewart, Teresa Weems; sister-in-law Rita Weems; mother of his son and the love of his life Lavonda Weems; nieces and nephews.
Bobby McCullough officiated the 2 p.m. service held Aug. 14 at Lemley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery with Richard Weems, Steven Weems, Jeremy Weems, Larry Dye, Terry Fullenwider, and Carthal Self serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Charles Fullenwider, Joe Palmer, and Andas Weems.
