JAMES MONROE BRAKEFIELD,



77, Nectar, died March 1, 2012, at the Veterans Hospital, Birmingham. Born in Fireco, W. Va., he was the son of Roy and Lula Huffstutler Brakefield, both of whom preceded him in death. Also predeceasing him were brothers Ernest, Frank, and Clarence Brakefield and son-in-law Gary Don Hopkins.

Mr. Brakefield served in the U.S. Navy, and was a retired steel worker from Republic Steel. He was a member of Corinth Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge #481, and Decatur Shriners. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, puzzles, and being with his family.

Surviving are wife Nelda Love Brakefield; son James Monroe “Jimmy” (Karen) Brakefield Jr.; daughters Sharon Denise Knox and Faye Ann Hopkins; grandchildren George ( Tiffany) Randolph, Greg ( Jennifer) Randolph, Melinda Randolph, Melissa ( Jeremy) Owens, Adam Hopkins, and T.J. Brakefield; sisters Thelma Lloyd and Shirley Bleichrodt.

John Fallin and Sammy Johnson officiated the March 3, 11 a.m. service at Mr. Brakefield’s church, with burial at Nectar Cemetery. George Randolph, Greg Randolph, Adam Hopkins, T.J. Brakefield, Daniel Smith, and Anthony Pate served as pallbearers. Blount County/Cleveland Funeral Home directed.
