It’s a pool party

Water aerobics is a big hit at the Blountsville Town Pool.

Water aerobics is a big hit at the Blountsville Town Pool.

Suntanned bodies, children splashing with laughter, and the high-pitched shrill of lifeguard whistles are all common sights and sounds as swimmers enjoy the refreshing waters at Blountsville Town and Oneonta City pools this summer.

Blountsville and Oneonta pools are open seven days per week, weather permitting. Both offer trained lifeguards on duty, bathhouses, swimming lessons, daily and season passes, pool parties, and concessions.

A splash pad is also located at the Blountsville Town Pool.

The Blountsville pool is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sundays 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Admission is $6 for ages 5 and up and $3 for anyone under 5.

In addition to daytime hours, the pool offers water aerobics on Monday and Thursday evenings, swimming lessons, and scheduled night swims.

Night swims are currently scheduled on June 24 and July 1, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The July night swim will include a fireworks show.

Pavilions are available free of charge, and they are reserved on a first come, first serve basis.

The addition of a larger lifeguard shack, concession area, and a family bathroom is currently underway. These improvements will be ADA compliant and is scheduled for completion by the end of summer.

The Oneonta City Pool is open Monday through Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and on Sundays 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Daily admission is $5 for ages 6 and above. Children 5 and under are admitted free.

The Oneonta pool offers three swimming areas – a kiddie pool and slide for children ages 5 and under, a shallow pool for less advanced swimmers that also includes a twisting waterslide, and a deeper pool with a diving area and swimming lanes for the more adventurous and advanced swimmers.

Covered sitting areas are available for those who wish to avoid the sun.

As these hot and humid days continue, gather up the beach towels and sun tan lotion, and head out for a day of fun in the sun. Both the Blountsville Town Pool and the Oneonta City Pool offer a family-friendly environment and strive to provide a fun-filled experience for all ages.
