IRS scam alert

Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey warns that if anyone receives a call from someone claiming to represent the IRS, it is a scam. Casey says she has received 50 to 60 calls informing her of these types of incidences.

“They call saying the person is about to get audited if they don’t pay a certain amount of money right then over the phone, but the IRS does not make initial contact through the phone or through e-mail,” Casey says.

“Everything they send will be through the mail. They do not communicate over the phone, so do not give any information to someone who says they are the IRS over the phone.”
