The Friends of the Covered Bridges of Blount County, in conjunction with the Blount County Master Gardeners Association, will host a bridge cleanup and work day at the Horton Mill Covered Bridge on Ala 75 north on Saturday, June 25, at 7 a.m.
The group will be removing overgrown plants and vines, as well as picking up trash around the bridge. Dress appropriately for brush removal. Bring garden pruning tools and gloves, protective eyewear, and a few trash bags. Don’t forget to pack a sack lunch and bring plenty of cold drinks. Consider carpooling as parking is limited at this bridge.
Friends of the Covered Bridges of Blount County was organized by concerned citizens to preserve and restore the county’s three remaining covered bridges. The group has gained support from the Blount County Historical Society and Memorial Museum and the Blount County Master Gardeners Association, as well as many other groups and businesses. The group says it has received the support of local government in restoring the county’s bridges to their former glory.
