Hornsby Steel wins excellence award

Governor Robert Bentley presented Governor’s Trade Excellence Awards to eight Alabama companies last week, including Hornsby Steel of Cleveland. Alabama’s exports to foreign markets have increased 57 percent since 2009, thanks to such companies. Shown above are members of the Blount County group who attended the presentation ceremony at the old Capitol building. Hornsby Steel is a familyowned business employing 29 workers. It specializes in bending steel and other metals for industrial, mining, shipbuilding, railroads, and architectural use. The company actively pursues contracts in Central and South America and in the Caribbean. ‘The international market has a lot of potential,’ said David Hornsby. ‘Much of the infrastructure here is complete, whereas there, they’re still building it,’ he said.
