Frank Cannon (left), service officer Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 28 and Marine Corps League, and Ret. 1st Sgt Robin Hackworth, Alabama National Guard, lay the wreath during the Memorial Day Ceremony at the Frank Green Building Auditorium in Oneonta Saturday. The annual event, sponsored by Operational Grateful Heart, featured Oneonta Middle School teacher John Fallin as guest speaker. Fallin, an Army veteran who worked for the White House Communication Agency at one point, asked those in attendance to remember not only those who served but also the family members of veterans. Music for the program was provided by Lynda Rhymes, who also directed a choir in the singing of ‘God Bless America.’ An especially emotional moment for the ceremony came when veterans from the county read the names of Blount countians killed in World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and in the Gulf War and Operation Iraqi Freedom and in Afghanistan.
