Holiday market roundup

For those wanting to shop local and support local businesses and community organizations, there are several Christmas extravaganzas taking place in the next few weeks that may be of interest to you. These organizations and businesses have worked hard to bring some fantastic opportunities to shop in a less crowded environment than some of the bigger options in adjoining counties. They offer locals the opportunity to showcase their creativity and talents, all while keeping dollars in Blount County.

Cleveland Crafts and Food Fair

Cleveland First Baptist Church is holding its first Cleveland Crafts and Food Fair on Saturday, Nov. 13, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m, in the fellowship hall so you will be able to stay warm while shopping and enjoying the cuisine. Organizers plan to make it an annual event.

Those attending this festive event will find a variety of exceptional Christmas presents such as crafted ink pens, handmade soaps, or hand-turned wooden bowls from local pecan, ash, or poplar wood. Shoppers will also find unique art pieces, decorative shelf sitters, signs, ornaments, and hand-sewn quilts, pillows, wall hangings, table runners, and placemats. There will also be a booth offering Matilda Jane clothing, including some prior season items at 50 percent off.

Be sure to make time to stop by the food booths and purchase delicious items such as homemade cakes, pies, and cookies. In addition, there will be Mexican food, roasted corn, and roasted sweet potatoes.

Admission is free, but all proceeds will go toward renovating the Cleveland First Baptist Church playground.

Mitchell Market

Located just outside of Oneonta at historic Mitchell Farm, Mitchell Market will make its debut offering a holiday-themed weekend featuring retail, furniture, artisan, and food vendors. Shoppers will be able to stroll through the barns and stables as they peruse the many items that will be available for purchase. Whether it is vintage items, home décor, gifts, or handmade goods you are looking for, this is the place to be.

Because shopping is always better with a full stomach, several local food vendors will be set up outside near the entrance of the event. They will be offering a variety of food choices sure to make your stomach happy.

The event takes place Friday, Nov. 12, and Saturday, Nov. 13, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Be sure to be there Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. as Santa will be making an appearance. This will be the perfect time to get those Santa pictures done for Christmas cards or take Christmas 2021 family photos.

Hosted by the Gilmer family, this event is one way the owners want to reintroduce historic Mitchell Farm back into the community. General admission is $10. Tickets can be purchased at or at the gate upon arrival. Parking will be located down the street from the market in a designated pasture. Ticket booths will be set up in the parking lot of the little white church and shuttle service will be available from there as well. For a full list of vendors, visit

Guests are welcome to take their own photos, but a photographer will be on hand for those wanting professional shots.

Before leaving, be sure to pick out that perfect Christmas tree for your home or business. People are encouraged to pick out that special tree and personally cut it down; but, if that does not appeal to you, Moody Farms will do it for you.

Christmas at the Farm – Canaan Acres

The first weekend in December, Canaan Acres event venue will host Christmas at the Farm. The event is scheduled inside the venue on Saturday, Dec. 4, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. They, too, will have vendors with a variety of items that will make great Christmas gifts and get everyone crossed off the list.

In addition, if you are looking for the perfect Christmas background to use for your family photos, look no further. Areas both inside and out will offer beautifully decorated areas serving as a backdrop for that yearly Christmas photo.
