The Hokes Bluff Eagles scored 28 unanswered, second-quarter points to pull away from the visiting Locust Fork Hornets en route to a 49-14 win last Friday night.
Locust Fork got a touchdown on the opening drive of the game from Chris Davis and the first quarter ended with the teams tied 7-7.
However, Hokes Bluff running back Cole Frederick began to heat up in the second quarter and the Hornets couldn’t find an answer on defense.
Frederick had a 10-yard touchdown run and a 50-yard punt return for another score in the second quarter to help the home team to a 35-7 halftime lead.
Frederick added another touchdown on an 80-yard run early in the third quarter and finished with 164 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
Taylor Hughes had a 67- yard run for Locust Fork’s final points late in the third quarter.
The Hornet offense had a solid night – finishing with 271 yards – but mistakes – fumbled punt snap,
interception returned for a touchdown – were too much to overcome. Hokes Bluff had 317 yards of total offense.
Hokes Bluff improved to 2-0 on the year, 1-0 in 4A Region 6. Locust Fork slipped to 1-1 overall, 0-1 in the region.
