‘He is Risen’

The quilt of the month by that title, in celebration of Easter, is now on display in the window at Blount County Memorial Museum in Oneonta. Held for viewing by museum curator Amy Rhudy, the quilt was pierced, appliqued, and hand-quilted by Virginia Tidwell of Oneonta (right). As a charter member of the Quilters Guild, she is dedicated to passing along the art of quilting and sharing with others the satisfaction that comes from creating heirloom quilts. The centerpiece of the quilt is the cross, surrounded by blocks depicting the holy spirit (dove), Golgotha (stylized “x”), the crown, the temple court (geometric design in upper left corner), hosanna (palm fronds), and the Eucharist (the cup and bread). Emphasizing the overall theme are the appliqued words “Christ is Risen,” “King of Kings,”“Lord of Lords,” “Messiah,” and “Savior.” – Ron Gholson
