Hayden kicked off 5A West Central Regional play with an 8-4 victory over Moody. The Wildcats got on the board in the first inning on a double by Gracie Benton that scored one run. They pulled away with three runs in the third. Mia Simmons was the winning pitcher allowing five hits and three runs over five innings. Hannah Cox threw two innings in relief recording the last six outs to earn the save. The Lady Wildcats tallied 12 hits on the day. Savannah Woodard (4-5), Kaitlyn Belding (2-3), and Becca Benton (2-4) each racked up multiple hits.
Rain settled in for the afternoon matchup pushing game two to Monday morning when the Wildcats faced off against Alexandria. They came away with a 7-0 win behind the strong pitching of Simmons and Savannah Painter. Simmons took the win surrendering zero runs on two hits over four innings, striking out two. The Wildcats had nine hits in the game. K. Belding and Isabelle Johnson led the team at the plate with two hits each.
In a heart-breaking loss, the Wildcats fell to Mortimer Jordan 2-3 in game three. The Wildcats tied it at two in the top of the sixth only for the Blue Devils to come back and score a run in the bottom.
The Wildcats came back with a vengeance defeating Springville 11-0 in the elimination game. Painter had all the right stuff allowing no runs in five innings. They were strong at the plate, too, racking up 13 hits. Lindsey Smith (3-4), Taylor Yeager (3-3), and Woodard (2-3) all managed multiple hits.
The Lady Wildcats are 41-5 for the season and hope to continue their 5A dominance against Satsuma in Montgomery on Thursday at 10:45 a.m.
