Group works to clean bridge

In an effort to keep one of Blount County’s signature assets presentable, approximately 20 people showed up last Saturday to clean up around the Horton Mill Bridge. The cleanup project was organized by Friends of the Covered Bridges of Blount County, a group dedicated to preserving and restoring the county’s three remaining covered bridges. This group has gained support from local government along with the Blount County Historical Society, Memorial Museum, and the Blount County Master Gardeners Association. For more information about the group, go to www.friendsofthecoveredbridgesofblountcounty.org or call Sharon Murphree at 687-1572. The next cleanup is tentatively set for Swann Bridge with a date and time to be announced later. –Rob Rice
