On Thursday, Blount County Supt Jim Carr, along with other members of the Blount County Education Foundation, announced the classroom grant project winners. According to Mitchie Neel, Foundation executive director, this year was the first time more than $100,000 has been handed out in connection with the classroom grant project to Blount County teachers. The foundation awarded 107 grants to educators throughout Blount County with 75 percent of those going to teachers and 25 percent going toward collaborative entries. The foundation has now given more than $1.9 million to Blount County schools.
