Grand jury date set in hatchet attack

Anthony Amaro, 31, of Hayden, remained in the Blount County Correctional Facility as of Tuesday with a bond set at $100,000 after he was charged with first-degree assault for attacking his wife with a hatchet, according to sources.

Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey says he is to appear before the grand jury in January.

Initial reports said Amaro might be charged with attempted murder, but that has not happened as of yet.

The incident happened at a home on Levi Green Road at approximately 12:18 p.m., on Dec. 19. Jessica Amaro was transported to Cullman Regional Medical Center before being taken to UAB Hospital. Investigators say she has been released.
