Glider pilot airlifted after crash

A 62-year-old Vestavia man was airlifted to UAB Hospital Sunday after he crashed while attempting to use a paraglider. The incident occurred in a pasture off Ala 79 in Cleveland, according to Cleveland police Chief Tim Jones.

“Air evac was called as a safety precaution,” Jones said.“The man was just learning how to use a glider and during his initial run, while trying to take off, he tripped and fell face first with all of that equipment attached to him. The contraption falling on him was our biggest concern. We haven’t received an update since he was transported, but he was alert at the scene.”
