GEORGE BAKER, 92, Straight Mountain, died Jan. 11, 2019, at St. Vincent’s East Hospital, Birmingham. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and later retired as a machinist from Hays Aircraft/ Pemco. Predeceasing him were wife Odell Walker Baker; parents James Franklin and Mable Lee Carson Baker; brothers Harold Douglas Baker, Vervon Baker; half sisters Dorothy, Ruby, and Pearl.
Surviving are children George Larry (Vicki) Baker, James Franklin (Karin) Baker, Peggy Baker (Terry) Smith, Mark Timothy (Paula) Baker; grandchildren Kirk Baker, Lora Baker, Tracy Jeter, Tim (DeAnna) Baker, Kelly (David) Guthrie, Kathryn (Adam) York, Kristie (Eric) Staton, Ashley Humphries; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brothers Willie Dee “Bill” Baker, Robert Lee “Bob” Baker; half sister Mary Sue McKinney; a host of other beloved family and friends.
Funeral services were held Jan. 15, at 11 a.m., at Lemley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery.
