GARY MICHAEL MOORE, 53, Locust Fork, better known as “Mike,” passed away at Brookwood Medical Center May 24, 2021. Michael was employed full time at Oneonta Fire Department and Locust Fork Fire Department. He served as chaplain of Palmerdale Fire Department. He served in the Smyrna Fire Department for 15 years and Calhoun Fire Department for eight years in Georgia. Mike served as deacon at High Shoals Baptist Church in Dallas, Ga.; he served as youth pastor at Straight Mountain Baptist Church, Southside Church in Oneonta, and First Independent Church in Oneonta. He was a member of Locust Fork Baptist Church and Union Hill Baptist Church. Preceding him in death were his father Gary Walton Moore; mother Beverly Jaqueline Reeves; grandparents Millard Gary Moore and Martha Frances Moore and Juanita Pauline Reeves and Luther Huey Reeves.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 34 years Valarie Lynn Walker Moore; children Anna Elizabeth Johnson (Jeremiah), Eva Adeline Moore, Rachel Olivia Tucker (Tanner), Gary Levi Moore, and Autumn Grace Moore; grandchildren Justus Lee Johnson, Laila Shae Johnson, Isaac Madden Johnson, and Jack Waylon Johnson; siblings Nancy Ka’ren Sarvis (Dewayne) and Kasie Leigh Whatley-Moore (Amy); a host of nieces and nephews.
The family received friends Thursday, May 27, at Lemley Funeral Home from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Mike lay in state at First Baptist Church of Oneonta on Friday, May 28, from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Funeral service began at 2 p.m. at the church with Bro. Dalton Farmer, Pastor Paul Sims, and Chaplain Mel Wade presiding. Burial was at Marietta City Cemetery with Bro. Matt McGinnis presiding. Asked to serve as pallbearers were firemen. Lemley Funeral Home directed.
