GARY DALE ‘BUDDY’ NUNN, Cullman County, died peacefully at his home on June 8, 2020. He was born on June 17, 1949, in Casper, Wyoming, the son of William Earl Nunn and Wilma S.Nunn (biological mother – Dorothy Rohran). Gary graduated from Hayden High School, Class of 1967. Following graduation, he served with the U.S. Air Force retiring as a Captain. After his military service, Buddy served as a special education teacher and administrator for the Schertz (Texas) school district, often using his gift of music to reach the special needs students he taught.
Buddy was predeceased by his parents William Earl and Wilma S. Nunn, brothers Robert Nunn and Donald Sears, and sisters Berniece Carter and Carolyn Shuck. Surviving, in addition to his wife Mary Elizabeth Nunn, are his children Jeffrey (Ulanda) Nunn, Jennifer (Scott) Zamorski, and Joshua Nunn; stepsons Alex Vega and Arturo Vega; grandchildren Dawson Nunn and Matthew, Jacek, and Bryce Zamorski; brothers John (Linda) Nunn, George (Anita) Nunn, Jim Nunn, Thom Wegner, and Greg Wegner; sisters Wilma (Pete) Whateley and Sue Nunn Daily; and many nieces and nephews.
Buddy was an extraordinarily talented musician creating and performing in country music bands throughout his lifetime and recording several songs he and his father, Earl Nunn, wrote. Gary was a Christian, well read in Biblical studies and teachings, often writing his own reflections and meditations and sharing them with friends and family. He shared his faith as freely as he shared his music. There’s a new star shining in the sky tonight, and his light on Earth will be greatly missed.
There are no plans for a memorial service at this time.
