GAIL PAYNE BELLEW, of the Straight Mountain community, passed away Oct. 2, 2021, at the age of 83. She was a graduate of Woodlawn High School and also attended Auburn University. She was retired from the Oneonta City School system where she earned the nickname “Sunshine” from the students for her warming smile and loving personality. She dearly loved all the students and faculty. She was a member of the Straight Mountain Fire Department where she served as secretary/treasurer for many years. She was a long-time member of Union Hill Baptist Church and later a member of Lakeview Baptist Church, a hard worker, who dearly loved the Lord and her family.
Gail was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years Troy Edwin Bellew Sr. and her parents Gordon Payne and Vivian Ivy. She is survived by sister Jane Miller and brother Charles Murrell; sons Troy Edwin Jr. (Sherri) Bellew, Norman Max (Beverly) Bellew; grandchildren Hali Denise (Tyler) Burton and Madison Carol Bellew; her constant companion “Freckles”; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Service will be held today, Oct. 6, at 11 a.m., at Lemley Funeral Chapel in Oneonta with burial at Mt. Carmel Cemetery on Straight Mountain. Officiating will be Bro. Eric Hixon, Bro. Danny Gunter, and Bro. Mark Lacks. Serving as pallbearers will be Tyler Burton, Chase Murrell, Doug Lovelady, Tim Peek, Justin Waddle, and John Storey.
