Victory assures Eagles spot in 1A playoffs

The Appalachian Eagles will be heading to the playoffs for the second year in a row after a 10-0 win at Madison Academy last week. Defense was the key as the Eagles held the Mustangs to just 62 yards of offense. Appalachian piled up 352 yards of offense led by Barry Tipton with 94 yards rushing, Tim Tolbert with 93, and Gary Tolbert with 84.

The J.B. Pennington Tigers continued with tradition Friday night at William R. Sutton Memorial Stadium as they defeated Vinemont for the 27th year in a row. Pennington won 28-13 behind a touchdown run of six yards from Jeff Gibbs and a 24-yard run by Jeff Brown. Gibbs also added a three-yard touchdown pass to Chuck Graves.

The Hayden Wildcats got 99 yards rushing and three touchdowns from Randy Niblett but needed three overtimes to beat Locust Fork, 34-31. Locust Fork got touchdowns from David Horsley, John Franklin, and James Rice.
