Sheriff’s force kept on jump

Sheriff Miller and his deputies were busy last week. On Wednesday they captured a car carrying ten gallons of liquor at Allgood and placed two men in jail charged with transporting liquor through Blount County.

On Thursday three stills were raided in the Western part of the County near Blount Springs. Two of these stills contained twelve hundred and fifty gallons each and the other fifteen hundred gallons. Three men were placed under arrest in connection with operating these stills.

C.C. Hood injured as truck leaves highway

Columbus Hood, of Route 3, Oneonta, was painfully hurt about daylight Thursday morning of last week when his Dodge truck left the highway near Ardmore, turning over three times.

Mr. Hood’s son, Cordell, was driving and must have gone to sleep. The truck gradually gained speed until it was going at a rapid rate when Cordell awoke and was unable to keep it in the road.

The truck had nine fine calves on in, which were being carried to Nashville to market. Two of the calves were killed in the accident, and the others were brought back home.

Mr. Hood sustained many bruises, but his main injury is torn ligaments in the right shoulder. Cordell and Mr. Verbon Pruett, who was also in the truck, also received minor cuts and bruises. The damage to the truck amounted to about $100.00.

Boxing and wrestling for Friday night

The American Legion has lined up another allstar program for Friday night, August 25. This week the program will be boxing and wrestling, following last week’s program of all boxing.

Speedy Stampides, of Birmingham, will meet Serge Russof, the Mad Russian, in a two-out-of-three fall one-hour time limit match.

Worley Alexander, the Cullman County boy, will be back for a bout with Pete McLemore, the clever Trafford boxer.

Sailor Phillips, who won his bout last week with a first round knockout, meets Olin Hannah, tough Warrior battler.

Local slugger Dude Ratchford takes on Sonny Towns of Altoona. Willie McPherson, of Oneonta, also gets an Altoona opponent in Jesse Bradford. Sid Phillips meets Harold Burnam, of Allgood; Red Cox faces the tough Aubrey Reeves, of Straight Mountain; and Harold Wright meets Bozo Bushard, whom he decisioned last week.

Every one of these bouts is a natural and plenty of excitement should prevail. First bout starts at 8:15.
