Bear sighting

Novella Murphree, her two daughters, and her granddaughter are convinced they saw a bear in her yard on Straight Mountain. They say anyone doubting it should inspect the claw marks made on the tree the bear climbed when her dog ran it from behind wood stacked at her porch.

All county basketball

Nectar Community Center will host square dance lessons by John Calhoun at 7 p.m. on May 22.

Mailbox Improvement Week was May 18 – 23, and residents were encouraged to clean, repair, repaint, or replace your mailbox. ‘Neat, attractive mailboxes add to the overall appearance of the community and aid in the delivery of mail. Rain or snow could leak in and damage that special letter,’ said Oneonta Postmaster Ray Jants.

EE Cornelius of Easley has added $100 to the $25 reward his sister Jewel Goode has offered to anyone giving information that leads to the arrest and conviction of any person who steals flowers from any grave in the county. Thefts increase in May and June when decorations are held at cemeteries throughout the area.
