$4 Million in marijuana seized

Around $4 million in marijuana plants was seized at a Snead area farm after a sweep of the county by law enforcement officials in two helicopters and a fixed-wing aircraft earlier this month.

Several other smaller marijuana patches were found at different areas of the county, but the 2000 plants (with a street value of $2000 each) in northern Blount County was by far the biggest operation, according to Sheriff Ernie Sosebee.

No arrests have been made as of yet and the evidence will be turned over to the next grand jury.

Firebugs at work?

Firefighters say they spotted the same two vehicles at almost all of the 16 fires that Snead, Susan Moore, and Nixons Chapel fought Saturday.

The first was reported at around 5 p.m. off Ala 75 near Highmound. During the next two hours, the three departments and other personnel traveled the back roads through McClarty, Highmound, and Nixons Chapel. No subject was apprehended but Douglas and Guntersville were notified the firebug was headed in their direction.
