The Wallace State Community College department of nursing will offer health screenings to area residents on Wednesday, June 13, from 8 a.m. until noon at the Oneonta WSCC campus. The health and wellness fair is free and open to the public. There will be at least nine stations to evaluate participants on a variety of health-related issues. Topics include:
• potential drug (over-the-counter and prescribed) interactions
• exercises to do at home
• vision screening
• blood pressure, heart rate, pulse, and blood sugar
• relaxation techniques
• smoking cessation
• documenting personal and medical history
• signs of heart attack and stroke.
“This will be the first time we’ve traveled with this program, and we are excited to offer it in Blount County,” said Wallace State nursing instructor Amy Burtram. “Our students always learn a lot during these events and they enjoy helping others learn ways to live a healthier life.”
St. Vincent’s Hospital will also have representatives conducting cholesterol screenings and dietary counseling at the event. For more information, contact Burtram at 256-352-8062 or amy.burtram @wallacestate.edu.
