FRANK EUGENE HANSON, born March 24, 1962, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2020, from COVID-19. Frankie, as he was affectionately known by his family and friends, was the son of Gene and Joyce Self Hanson; the brother of Dana (Jim Ed) Clayton; uncle of Drew (Joanna) Clayton and Kevin (Courtney) Clayton; great-uncle of Anjali, Sanjana, Caleb, and Rohin Clayton. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of friends. Frank grew up surrounded by grandparents and great-grandparents and we rejoice that he is with them now celebrating his homecoming.
Frank was a 1982 graduate of Hewitt Trussville High School and a longtime resident of The ARC of Central Alabama. He loved his housemates Michael and David. The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation for the daily, loving care he received from The ARC staff. Special appreciation to Juan and Helen who loved him so deeply. At The ARC Day Program, he was widely known as the “businessman.” His laughter and joy will be missed by his extended ARC family.
Frank was always welcoming to everyone and greeted all with a hug and handshake. He loved his nurses at St. Vincent’s East, and they in turn loved him. Words are not enough to thank them for their devoted care.
A memorial donation may be made in his memory to The ARC of Central Alabama, 6001 Crestwood Blvd., Birmingham, AL 35213, www.arcofcentralalabama.org, or The Blount County Children’s Center, P.O. Box 906, Oneonta, AL 35121.
Memorial services will be held at Clay United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the Clay UMC Cemetery. Service times will be announced at a later date.
