First four of eight candidate profiles

U.S. HOUSE DISTRICT 6

Eight candidates – seven Republicans and one Democrat – qualified to run for the Sixth District U.S. House of Representatives seat that came up for grabs when Rep. Spencer Bachus announced last fall that he would not seek re-election. Four of those candidates, taken alphabetically, are profiled in this edition. The remaining profiles will appear next week.

The Republican candidates are Scott Beason of Gardendale, Will Brooke of Birmingham, Paul DeMarco of Homewood, Chad Mathis of Indian Springs Village, Gary Palmer of Hoover, Robert Shattuck of Mountain Brook, and Tom Vigneulle of Pelham. The Democratic candidate is Avery Vice of Maylene.

District 6 includes all of Blount County as well as all of Shelby, Bibb, Chilton, and Coosa Counties. It also includes much of Jefferson County.

Profiles are based on information provided by the candidates themselves, in response to a questionnaire sent to them by The Blount Countian. Profiles of all candidates who respond will be included. Efforts have been made to see that all candidates answer the same questions for ease of comparison by readers.
