Fifty-year sentence in beating case

Circuit Judge Steven King pronounced a 50-year prison sentence on Robert Wayne Patterson of Locust Fork who was found guilty in August of first-degree assault on his neighbor, Charles Gilliland.

District Attorney Tommy Rountree asked the court to consider Patterson’s two prior assault convictions and impose the maximum sentence of life in prison. Patterson’s attorney and several family members, however, said he was a good and generous man to anyone who treated him right.

Sources in the district attorney’s office indicated Patterson might be considered for parole in as little as 16 years.
