Elite Runners at Lake Guntersville Invitational


Blount County runners competed Saturday in the Lake Guntersville Invitational Cross Country meet. Included among the 44 teams were J.B. Pennington, Cleveland, Oneonta, and Locust Fork.

For the Tigers, the boys and girls were both strong with many runners improving on their previous season bests. These outstanding times earned the Tigers a first place trophy in both the male and female divisions.

Outstanding individual Elite Runners from Blount County in the female division were Pennington’s Autumn Sansing (third); Oneonta’s Gaby Piceno (seventh); and Pennington’s Esmeralda Vazquez (eighth). In the male division, Blount’s Elite Runners were Pennington’s Paul Gonzalez (fifth); Oneonta’s Luke Ellis (sixth); and Pennington’s Jaxson Branham (seventh) and Carlos Perez (ninth).

After this performance, the J.B. Pennington boy’s team ranks third overall in 3A-state standings and the girl’s team currently ranks sixth overall.
