In an effort to do something to brighten the lives of children who have encountered abuse and neglect in their short lives, four Blount County Keller Williams realtors teamed up with local businesses to make special Easter baskets for each Blount County foster child.

Sara Dean, Kathy Glaze, Shelia Gilliland, and Katrina Williams organized and filled 65 Easter baskets that were packed full of Easter eggs filled with all types of goodies. Also found in the baskets were candy, gift cards, stuffed animals, and age-appropriate toys for children ranging from newborn to 20 years old. To add a special touch, each basket had an enclosed handwritten card addressed to each child.

DHR employees and foster parents want to send out a special thanks to Keller Williams Realtors Blount, David Wilson – New York Life Insurance, Tommy Morgan – Alaco Pharmacy, McDonald’s, and 8A Discount Store – Oneonta, for the love shown to the foster children and making Easter just a little more special. Some of the foster parents have expressed how much of a blessing the Easter baskets added to their Easter celebration and how much they appreciate the group working together and making them available for the children.

Next year the realtors are planning to have an even bigger event that may include an Easter egg hunt and festival.

Blount County DHR averages between 65 and 90 foster children each month due to abuse and/or neglect. The need for foster families remains. If anyone is interested in becoming a foster parent, please contact DHR at 205-274-5200.
